New Beginnings

Hello Friends!

I am so sorry for the long absence, but we’ve had a lot on our plate. Last Friday, we sold our house, barns and the bulk of our farmland to a super nice couple with a sweet  2 year old who sat through the closing quietly- except for occasional chants of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (apparently his favorite book!)

And now we are temporarily living with close friends (5 minutes away) in an apartment in their house, while we build a new, smaller house. What a marathon of packing and moving and planning and constructing!

We have retained the 20 acres with my husband’s woodworking shop and will build a new house in the woods behind it. So far we have a rough driveway and an in-progress storage shed and carport. Here are some pictures of Rob and Gabe siting the house, our excavator preparing the site and our good and capable friends helping us raise the new shed/ carport:

We are very excited about this project! We had a great time designing and building our previous house, and we are approaching this with the same level of joy and enthusiasm. We love the new site with its woods and rock outcroppings and the dappled sunlight through the trees. Best part: No lawn! I have visions of woodland plantings, ground covers of ferns and myrtle and ajuga, columbine tucked into rocky nooks, forget-me-nots spreading at the edge of trees…

I will keep the pictures coming as we make progress. But now, back to the drawing board-literally- as a deadline looms!

Happy summer, everyone!

  11. Dearest Iza! I was wondering whether and when the big move had taken place. I am so excited for you — and also to see what new wonders Rob creates! Please do post production photos as you go along (we amateur DIY folks find them inspirational!). 🙂

And I hope this means you can relax just a bit. I miss seeing you around! xoxo

Thanks! I will definitely post pictures. As for relaxing- we will go to Maine for 2 weeks in August (instead of the usual month). Other than that, we are both busy working on both our day jobs and the new construction. But it’s all good! We are happy 🙂

  12. I’m a bit behind on the news of your move! I look forward to hearing about the progress. (By now there should be quite a bit since I actually more than a bit behind!
Hope you had fun in Maine.
