Poetry Friday is hosted this week by the lovely, witty and wonderful Renee La Tulippe at No Water River – the picture book and poetry place. She is celebrating her blog’s one year anniversary and has some fun stuff going on over there. In addition to the round up of poems by the great Poetry Friday cast, she has very funny video bloopers and exciting coming attractions. So head over there quick! No tickets needed!
Here is my contribution:
Aches And Pains
“I have the flu,” announced the Gnu,
“I’m really in a funk.”
Said Elephant with discontent,
“I have a runny trunk.”
“My throat is sore and I can’t roar,”
The Lion went on to say.
“I’m in a miff. My neck is stiff,”
Giraffe voiced her dismay.
“We’re quite a crew,” declared the Gnu,
“Enough of this complaining.
I’m off to bed to rest,” he said,
“My energy is waning.”
The Elephant, away he went
To go deal with his issue
And soon the hunk with runny trunk
Did find himself a tissue.
The Lion thought,” I really ought
To have some tea with honey.
I bet I’ll roar just like before.”
He was right on the money.
The stiff Giraffe-now don’t you laugh-
Went to the chiropractor.
A week or two it took, it’s true,
Until the doctor cracked her.

I’m sure this was as much fun to write as it is to read, Iza! Well done.
Yes, it was fun, Matt. I struggled with the last two lines, though. Thanks!
Love love love your poem, Iza! Especially the hunk with runny trunk :). Dare I say, the last line cracked me up. . .
I agree with the gnu…this is quite a crew! And I totally enjoyed their aches and pains 🙂
Penny, thank you! And you have been writing some great poems. I really enjoyed them and look forward to more!!
Hilarious! I especially like:
“The stiff Giraffe-now don’t you laugh-
Went to the chiropractor.
A week or two it took, it’s true,
Until the doctor cracked her.”
I can just imagine…=)
Hi Bridget! I am glad you had a little chuckle. Thanks so much!
LOL Iza – I was worried that the zookeeper was going to have to:
Rush about and fix them soup,
then rub their chests with menthol goop!
Obviously I am waering my ‘mothering’ glasses too much today. Fun!
HAHA! Yes your mothering and rhyming glasses. Love it! Thanks, Cathy 🙂
I enjoy reading your writing. Today was no exception! 🙂
Thank you Tracy! That means so much to me!
Very funny 🙂 You are so clever 🙂 I hope the subject matter is not a reflection of your current condition, what with the celebratory weekend coming up! 🙂
Susanna, I was starting to catch my husband’s cold a couple of weeks ago, but thanks to a slew of remedies including echinacea, garlic, honey, turmeric, cayenne… gallons of liquids and a vile tasting holistic tincture, I managed to stay healthy and the concert went really well! Thanks!
Ha! And how perfect is this for flu season. I hope you haven’t succumbed.
Thanks Violet! Nope- so far so good. I hope the same goes for you!
Oh, you clever lass! Look at all that internal rhyme! I love these characters and this poem. What a funny PB it would make! 🙂
Thanks Renee! Hmmm… I’ll have to think about that! 🙂
Perfect pick for the day on which I will get my first-ever flu shot!
Thanks Mary Lee! Have a happy flue-free winter!
BBF, what genius writing. (Internal rhyme is awesome) I think this would make a super duper picture book story. I see the funny pictures in my minds eye. You made me laugh out loud. Thanks as always, BBF. Hugs and loves to you. (Hope you’re not feeling like this bunch.) 🙂
Thanks BBF! I am glad you like it. I am feeling fine and I hope so are you! Love and hugs.
